Looking for information on the Sheedy Family in Ennis 1870s and earlier.
« on: Wednesday 30 January 19 18:56 GMT (UK) »
I have traced my father's family back to Ennis, County Clare, Ennis. His great-grandfather was James Sheedy (born around 1852), married to Maria Hehir in Dublin South in 1871. Children Honora (1872), John (1874), Patrick (1876), Francis James (1878 - my father's father) and Mary (1880).

Been trying to located more information on either his great-grandfather or great-grandmother. I did find a census form 1841, applicant Mary Sheedy. Was wondering if maybe there is a connection

My son and I will be traveling to Ireland in June and are hoping to visit areas where my dad's family came from. Thanks in advance.

Is there a Civil Registration for the marriage?

Yes, I found the Civil Marriage Record which states James' father is James and Maria's father was Michael.

Thanks Sinann for the church record and the additional names. The search continues.

Notice on the church record James parents are living Co.Clare while Maria's are Ennis.
It's quite possible James and family did not live in Ennis but perhaps in the surrounding area, with Ennis as the nearest town.
When away from home people often give there birth place as the nearest town rather than some small place most people will never have heard of.

Hello, did you ever find a connection with James and the sheedys in the census? I believe my great great grandfathers parents were Michael Sheedy and Mary Millane from Springfield co.clare. He was born in 1852
