Marriage record
« on: Wednesday 30 January 19 21:47 GMT (UK) »
I have searched high and low for the marriage record of Neil Galbraith b. 1855 and Mary McCallum b. 1863. Their first child was born around 1885 so I assume the marriage was about then, their son Hugh, born 1891, has them listed as his parents on his marriage certificate, which is how I know her surname. I have tried through ancestry, Scotland's people and Family Search. Help appreciated.

Thanks, Sandra, I see the spelling of the wife's name was different, just that little difference prevented me finding it on Scotland's People, even using Fuzzy Matching of Name Variants. I can now move forward. Thank you for your help.
I had the census info, thanks
John

The best way is to use wildcards - m*c*l*m will find most McCallums and variants.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
