He may be the Bethnal Green-born William Scully who joined the Army (104th Regiment of Foot, Bengal Fusiliers) in October 1858 and was discharged unfit (heart trouble, pneumonia) at Dover in July 1875.  In the meantime he had accumulated many years’ service in India, with a rather disastrous disciplinary record.

Intended future residence: 3 Silver? St, Stepney.

Hello avm228,

It is a very tempting thought "SCULLY" for "SCURRY".........thank you......I shall keep it as a default while I explore the migration to USA angle.

For now,

Further thought..............

A William SCURRY married Susan Sarah THOMAS in the 1st quarter of 1878 (FreeBMD).   I wonder if anyone is able to extend that information showing his father to be "Lawrence" ??? ::)

He didn't, he married Thomazin Rodd - according to the 25 March 1878 licence the marriage was to take place at St John the Evangelist, Westminster.

No, but the parish register image does: James Scurry, merchant.

William Scurry was a 74 yr old widower, and Thomazin Rodd a 73 yr old spinster, on 30 March 1878.
