Isbell and Harvey
« on: Friday 01 February 19 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am a bit frustrated by the lack of any obvious index to Essex parish records. I am stuck with the following.

Isaac Isbell [and variant spelling] married Mary Medcalf in Black Notley on 20 Jan 1798. Possibly born 1767. Is this correct and if so where?
Obviously interested in any other Isbells going further back.

Also
Samuel Harvey married Mary Mills in Braintree 8 Mar 1818. Census says born Braintree in 1796 ish.

If anyone has any info it would be great. Many thanks

David

Essex records are available online on the SEAX site - a small subscription is necessary to view.
No, they aren't indexed, but Parish Records can be viewed in full, just as you would if you visited the Record Office in person. So, Essex is actually very well represented online compared to many counties where coverage is patchy and incomplete.

If you have Essex ancestors and are interested in the pre census and pre Civil Registration era, then it is well worth it.

Where did you get the possible year of birth for Isaac from?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I find this Parish map really helpful in seeing what are neighbouring parishes.  Often a person will give the nearest Big place as a place of birth when they actually were born/christened in a small village in the area

Thanks all for quick replies.

A quick comment about my 'moan'. I am in Edinburgh. All Scottish PRs are indexed. My original home was Nottinghamshire. The Notts FHS have most of the PRs indexed and on CD. I have used the Essex records in the past but I always knew where to look. I am more than happy to wade through PRs but not when I have no idea where to start.

Isaac Isbell died Black Notley 2/2/1813 aged 46. Births to Isaac and Mary stopped with John [in Bocking] in 1813.
