Sunderland family - where did they go?
« on: Saturday 02 February 19 17:10 GMT (UK) »
I am currently working on the children of Thomas and Mary Sunderland family. They had several children, 3 girls and 5 boys. The girls have been easy to search and I have them in census records and then their marriages. However the boys all seem to disappear as they reach adult/middle age. Can anyone help me find them?

I'm working logically so the eldest son is Jesse born 1865 in Bingley, appears in 1871, 1881,1891(name written as Sanderland)  and 1901 census. Same job throughout ( a boot finisher) but I cannot find him in 1911, nor any marriage, nor any death. There is a marriage for a Jesse Sunderland (1899) but I think this is someone different. Any deaths do not tie in with age.

Any suggestions please?

Thankyou hepburn - I  hadn't seen that marriage. Jesse would have been 61 by them so definitely a possibility. I have looked for any marriage notices in the local newspapers ( without luck!), so I may have to get a certificate to confirm. Still though no 1911  entry for him.

Hi

You don’t name the sons, but I see an Arthur D Sunderland, born Lancashire, plus his Lancashire born wife of ten years and their four children living and working in Dublin.  They along with another one or two UK Sunderlands are recorded in our 1911 census, link below.

Cheers

I have found Harry in 1871, 1881, 1891 - (then aged 23) and nothing else. Have followed up some marriages but all can be traced to being a different Harry
William in 1881, 1891,1901 ( then aged 30 and unmarried)
George - 1871, 1881, 1891, 1911 ( then aged 38 and unmarried)
Arthur - 1881, 1891, 1901 ( then aged 21 and unmarried)
