Joannesburg burials
« on: Sunday 03 February 19 15:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Don't know if anyone can help with this but would be grateful if they could.
I am trying to trace my husbands great grandparents burials.
We have their dates of death as follows.

William John Noble died 9th July 1920, 78 Plein Street, Johannesburg. (born 1875 Gwinear, Cornwall, England. Says intended place of burial Roodeport Cemetery on his death certificate.

Elizabeth (or Bessie) Noble (Maiden name Opie) died 19th January 1922 , 49 Buxton Street, Doornfontein, Johannesburg. (born Aug 1871, Cornwall England). Also says intended place of burial Roodeport cemetery on her certificate.

I've tried the various gravesite websites that seem available but no luck so far. We were hoping to get a picture of their grave.
We have their estate files.
Trying to piece together their time in South Africa.

Grateful for any help
Amelia

You could try to contact the cemetery and see if they are buried there - Eggsa.org has partially photographed the cemetery - no Noble's in their collection. Be warned a lot of the cemeteries in SA have been vandalized so there may be no gravestone to find.

Contact details
Old Roodepoort Cemetery
Region C, Zone 3
Kerkhof Street, Roodepoort
Telephone: (011) 472-8072 or (011) 474-8800

This cemetery has been closed for new graves, except for some reserved graves. Hours: 8am to 4pm daily.
Maintenance programme is every 28 days.
