Hi again, have been trying to resolve what happened to Hugh post 1881, he was born June qtr 1879 Machynlleth v118 page179 which has either no mmn or Hughes, so who was the Hugh Richards b c 1880 who died March qtr 1880 Machnylleth aged 0, who cannot be the one on 1881 census?

I agree with keyboard86 about mother's maiden name. If you look up the birth regs on the GRO index, all the children on the 1881 census have mother's maiden name Hughes.

1871 census Tynralltgoch, Penegoes
Thomas Richard head mar 25 labour b. Penegoes
Ann wife 23 b. Darowen
William son 1 month b. Penegoes  ( think this should be 1 year)

next door possible parents of Ann
Rowland Hughes head mar 54 labour b. Merionethshire, Mallwyd
Mary wife 50 b. Penegoes
Mary dau 20 b. Darowen
John Richard father-in-law widower 76 farm lab b. Penegoes

Marriage in Penegoes 27 Sept 1845 for Rowland Hughes labourer, of Dolgadfan in the parish of Llanbrynmair, father Edward Hughes, labourer
& Mary Richards of Tynyralltgoch, father John Richards, farmer
witnesses Elizabeth Richard & John Humphrey

Added :- forgot to say the marriage for Thomas Richards & Ann wasn't in a parish church, (North Wales bmd) so the one or both families may be non-conformist and would also explain the lack of parish baptisms.

possibly the death of the illegitimate Hugh registered on the same page as the Hugh on the 1881 census?  North Wales Bmd has the sub-district for the registration as Machynlleth.

There is a death reg for a Thomas Richards aged 55 march qtr 1896 Machynlleth vol 11b pg 115 - North Wales Bmd has sub district as Darowen
