1871 Census - SIDGWICK & TAYLOR (Post Complete)
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 21:18 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find Mary Ann Sidgwick and Richard Taylor in the 1871 census please?

In 1881 they lived at High Row, Norton, Durham.   I think Richard was probably born in that area about 1850, but on the census Mary Ann's place of birth is given as Huddersfield and her age is 30 so she would be born about 1851.   They may not have been married by 1871.

Richard was a bricklayer and the only children I know of are Joseph Henry, born about 1873 in Bradford (from the 1881) and Richard, born May 1884 in Norton, Durham.   I have Richard's birth certificate but have been unable to find either birth or marriage references for his parents so far.

Many thanks.

Thank you both very much - difficult choice!   I think I will probably go with Tricia because I was told the Taylors 'go back hundreds of years in Norton' but from what I can make out so far they all inter-married!

Thanks again Joe.   This is now becoming increasingly confusing, and I'm not sure the Mary Ann in Huddersfield is the right one - the age is 2 years out.   The easy way would be to send for a marriage certificate - if only I could find a reference for it!
