Thanks, Sandra.   :)

I do believe he is the one showing in the 1935 and 1940 electoral records, living with a widow named Mary Jenkins.

Wonder who the informant on his death certificate was, they certainly knew he had a military history.
Perhaps it was the "housekeeper"  ???

The headstone is in the same/similar style as CWGC ones, albeit the chap didn't die in either war and isn't commemorated on the CWGC website:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/111511791/william-darlow

I wonder if this was standard headstone for those buried in military section of this cemetery, regardless of when they died, or if his death was linked with an injury sustained in active service all those years earlier (although I think for anysuch, death had to happen within a certain timescale after service)? Surely some official proof of him having been in the Royal Navy would have been needed to secure both the plot and the headstone. Would CWGC possibly know, or be able to direct you to any ex-servicemen associations in Winnipeg who may have been responsible for organising this?

That's what I was thinking!
Brookswood Cemetery won't give out the name of who bought the plot, which I am thinking is Mary Jenkins.

Thanks for that!  I have seen his naval records; he was a young orphan when he started with the Royal Navy!   No wonder he was a bit of a lost soul!

Scotmum:  On the Brookside cemetery site, somewhere I read that the military section was open to all who served anywhere at anytime, so perhaps all the headstones are of a "military generic" style.   Too bad they didn't put his military number on to make life easier!
