The above was a stone mason and lived at Forest Hill at the 1911 census with his wife Ada and 4 children. At 1939 Ada was a widow.
I found a record on Anc and also CWGC for a William J Howells who was killed 2 Nov 1917 in E.E.F. both say he was born in Forest Hill but neither say when he was born or who is relations were?

Looks like the same man.  Register of Soldiers Effects has his widow Ada E Howes as per the 1911.
