Fold 3

I have just tried to view a soldier's WW1 Pension record on Ancestry and it says that it can be viewed in "Fold 3" but when I tried to look at it, I get a message to say that I need a "Premium Account" which I already have with Ancestry but not sure why I get this message, could it be because I got the discounted Premium offer?

Very often information that shows on Fold 3 is also available on F M P or the National Archives website.

I have just looked on Ancestry, I think they mean a premium membership of Fold3.  They do have records not on FindMyPast though   

It really annoys me that Ancestry can put UK service records on a completely different site, some of which were originally available on Ancestry UK.

I am almost sure that they had free access to Fold3 last year.

I had a look as well, as I remember Jim and Regorian helping when there was a free few days for Fold3 on Ancestry.  I don't have enough ancestors who were soldiers to justify a sub. 

I already have a World sub to collect all those migrating kin!  It would be nice if they had a special discount for pensioners, as English Heritage does.

I think we pay enough out as it is, and it seems to get any discount you have to wait until your subs expire and hope that a discount offer is still available. Considering the highest percentage of Family Historians are most likely to be pensioners they probably think it is not economically viable. Years of loyalty go unrewarded
