Francis Stockdale mystery
« on: Wednesday 06 February 19 15:42 GMT (UK) »

Francis STOCKDALE(b. 1848, Ingleby Barwick) He was the son of Francis STOCKDALE and Sarah(WOODRUFF).

The 1871 census indicates he was living in Hartepool with a family named ORD, and it also indicates he was “joiner.” In 1875 there was a marriage in Hartlepool between Francis STOCKDALE and an Annie(surname could be SAVAGE or ROURKE). Francis and Annie can’t be found in the 1881 England Census. They were found in the 1891 Scotland Census, living on Queen Street, St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire?? That census indicate Francis was an Artist from England and Annie, who was born in 1852, was a machinist from Dublin(the census may have the trades mixed up). The two could not be found in the 1901 census or 1911.  A newspaper article from the Aberdeen Journal was found from 1886 indicating F Stockdale had been appointed vice-captain of Her Majesty's Theatre Cricket team. It was also discovered that one of Francis’ and Annie’s neighbours on Queen Street named their son Francis Stockdale Quinn in 1890.

Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to find any death and/or burial information for Francis and Annie? It is not known is the couple had any children.

Ryan

“Frank” Stockdale was already playing cricket for the Her Majesty’s Theatre team in Aberdeen in May 1885.

In fact he’s there as F Stockdale in June 1884.

I checked SP but nothing at all for Frank/Francis and although there are several Annie Stockdale deaths,  none fit her birthyear.

?? Emigration or did they go to live in Ireland perhaps?

The last newspaper mention I can find in Aberdeen is in January 1893:

Francis Stockdale, 68 Queen Street, Aberdeen, was fined 16s, with the option of seven days' imprisonment, for keeping a dog without licence.

(Various newspapers, 25 and 28 January 1893)

In the 1890/91 electoral roll he is a carpenter. In pantomime ads he is credited for the "mechanicals".
