War medal record
« on: Wednesday 06 February 19 18:21 GMT (UK) »
I have found a war medal record for the Victory Medal which could be for my Great Great Uncle. I'm wondering if it's possible to get more information using the information on the form to ascertain whether it is the same man. I don't have any experience of searching military records. My Alfred Challies Bugden lived in Kent so I'm not sure if this rules him out as its the Nottingham and Derby regiment, however it is the flying corp and I'm guessing there weren't many of those at this time? Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated for this novice!

I'm sure there would only have been one Alfred Challies Bugden - this must surely be your man.

The few records I have been able to find say that he first attested for the RFC, going to France in November 1915. He was an Air Mechanic 2nd Class. In September 1917 he was compulsorily transferred to the Notts & Derby Regiment, retaining his rate of pay.

Thank you, I thought it was a fairly unique name but didn't want to assume. Can I ask how you found the extra information? How and where did you search? I've keen to learn!
Thanks again.

There is a medal index card on Ancestry and an RFC document on FindMyPast.
