Late baptism reasons

I've just come across someone being baptised on their 13th birthday (very handily the vicar has annotated it with the birth date as well) it seemed unusual to me and wondered if there could have been a significance to it

This is 1847 baptism (1834 birth) if that makes any difference

My paternal grandmother was baptised when she was 14 in 1888, on the same day as one of her brothers aged 12, and two sisters aged 8 and 5. The five year old was baptised privately and died shortly afterwards, so I'm assuming they knew she was going to die and that was why they decided to get her and three of her siblings baptised..

Their oldest brother was baptised in 1887 aged 15.

In rural or remote areas there wasn't always an available minister to baptise the child/children. That's why often you will see multiple baptism for the same family.
In my tree, I have several daughters all baptized late, but not at the same time interestingly. They were all born to a surrogate in the early 1800's. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I don't think there is any set time for baptisms, some didn't even bother, some adults don't get baptised till they were due to get married

Some nonconformist baptisms were done later, some even as adults.

Perhaps she was going to be confirmed,she would need to be baptised for that.

As for inexplicable late baptisms I have two sisters in my husband’s family who were not baptised until after their marriages, one had been married three years and the other seven years. Their siblings were baptised as infants.
