Help reading Devon 1567 parish register surname Mabell
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 10:31 GMT (UK) »
Dear Lovely handwriting experts
Help please in reading this entry from the Woodbury Devon parish register of 1567.  The entry in question is the 8th from the top, surname Mabell.  The first name has mostly been obliterated but there are traces left.  By comparing these traces with some other entries, I have come to a view on what the first name is, but it is the name I want it to be, and sometimes you see what you want to believe!  So I would appreciate some unbiased opinions on what the whole entry reads.
Thank you so much.

Comparing with other entries on the same page, I read it as ...

Wm sonne of Hamond Mabell xxiijth of ffebruary A(nn)o sup(ra)

(The clerk’s long s joined to the o makes the word sonne difficult to identify.)

Thank you both, I thought it was William but that’s what I wanted it to be!  Thank you for the confirmation that I wasn’t imagining it.

not easy with it being so faded, but it's very similar to the Wm a few lines above that is clear.
