Looking for a person
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 18:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I don't know if anyone can help. I am look for ancestor. His name is William Taylor born in 1777 in Bury st Edmunds, Suffolk. He married a woman names Martha. I am trying to find out when he was born and who his parents are. William is my 6x G. Grandfather. I can't find where he was from which makes me wonder wether he was adopted or from another country. If anyone knows anything or how to help find more I would be very greatful.

Hi, welcome to rootschat.

Can you tell us what information you already have which has led you to the conclusion that William Taylor 1777 of Bury St. Edmunds is your ancestor.

Hi Chloe

Welcome to Rootschat :D

Yes a little clarification would be useful. You say William was born in 1777 in Bury St Edmunds but then say you want to know when he was born - is Bury St Edmunds where he lived and 1777 a rough estimate of his age? Do you have them on the 1841 census? I assume you don't have a marriage as you don't know Martha's surname.

Jan

I can see a William Taylor Widower 74 Plummer Pauper born Bury St Edmunds living in Bury in 1851 but can't find him or Martha in 1841.

The Suffolk marriage index has William Taylor marrying Martha Abbott in St James Bury St Edmunds on 16 Sep 1799

Thank you for your comments. I have found his parents james and Martha. However James Taylor was born in 1750 1st Feb and can only find his mum Ann. But I can't find anything about her. Seem to be really stuck. James Taylor is my 7x Great Grandfather.
