James Millham New Jersey Nationality Native
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 19:59 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors, James Millham, is listed in the New Jersey State Census, 1875. He was born abt. 1809 in Andover, Sussex Co., New Jersey. In 1875 he is still living in Andover. His nationality is listed as "native" as are his parents. My question is does "native" mean Native American Indian? His race is listed as "white". Thank you in advance.

1870 says born New Jersey - I don't think this means he was a native american indian.

The 1875 lists most of the people as native.

This has the questions asked on the 1875 NJ census, and it says native or foreign-born.  http://www.newhorizonsgenealogicalservices.com/nj-census-questions.htm
