Looking for Mary Jane Gray (Was Hall) & Family
« on: Sunday 10 February 19 18:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am new to this forum so if I post something wrong or too much information I can censor it or just delete it and i'll start again, haha.

Over the last year I have been searching via ancestry (and badgering family) on information of Mary Jane Gray (Was Hall) and a few of her family members. I've hit a brick wall and hoping someone here will have some knowledge.
Mary was my great grandmother and born to Edward Wales Hall and Ruth Newman in Durham in 1900.
She married my great grandfather Thomas Gray in Durham in 1918 and had three children, Robert, Emily (who preferred Pem) and Thomas who was my grandfather and sadly passed before I was born.

Information that I am looking for concerns Mary as well as a few members of the family so I'll try to be as concise as I can.  :)

I know that Mary & Thomas divorced as he remarried later on in life but I can't find anything of Mary since 1932 when she gave birth to my grandfather Thomas. I'd love to know if she remarried or had anymore children.
I'm looking to see what happened to her son Robert (born 1920). I found him living with his Grandparents (Mary's Parents) on the 1939 census but know nothing more passed that.
I'm also wondering what happened to Mary's sisters who were Margaret Ann Hall & Emily Hall. I found them through Military records but never been able to find a 1911 Census of them or the family.

If anyone here knows anything I'd be so happy if you could reply and if I do find family here and it's not too much trouble, I've never seen a photo of any of them and if you have one I'd love to have a digital copy.

Thank you so much

Hannah x

Welcome to rootschat, Hannah

You have put:
'I know that Mary & Thomas divorced as he remarried later on in life but I can't find anything of Mary since 1932 when she gave birth to my grandfather Thomas. I'd love to know if she remarried or had anymore children'

Did Thomas put 'divorced' on his next marriage certificate?
Have you got her exact date of birth (could help find her death)?

What is Robert's birth date from 1939 - and how is he described there?

I cannot see his Birth on free Bmd in 1920 - have you the reference?

Mary Jane Hall’s birthdate was actually 2 November 1899 according to her school record (Langley Park School, Durham).

Her sister Margaret Ann is entered as “Minnie” in the school record - birthdate 28 April 1900 but that is a year out - she was born in 1901. (Margaret Ann Hall, mmn Newman Jun qtr 1901 Houghton le Spring).

Hello everyone :) thank you so much for replying.

Yes on Thomas's second marriage it was put as previous marriage divorced in the condition section. My uncle believe she died in the 80's but she was born 2nd November 1899.

I've ordered Roberts birth certificate to help find him as the index says he was born 1919 but on the 1939 census his birthday is down as 14th June 1920.

Yes Mary's mothers maiden name was Newman :) I have found Edward Wales Hall but it seems that side of the family hasn't been as researched as other sides of my family so finding records or anyone to verify is the tricky bit for me.

School record? Where would I find that? && thank you i never knew she went by minnie

Thank You!
