William Mark Dearlove - Musican / Comedian
« on: Sunday 10 February 19 21:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello!  ;D

Im tracing the Crofton family who lived in Leeds in the 1800's.. In the 1871 census i traced Sarah Crofton living in Leeds with her 2 children, George Frederic Crofton and Lucy M A Dearlove (who i think is from her previous marriage). I've been trying to locate a bit of info on Lucy as she was listed as a Musician. Going through the census's i have found her lodging in different places sometimes with William Mark Dearlove who was also as a Musican or Comedian. I looked through newspaper records for both of them and only came up trumps with William who seemed to be in a duo with John Wright but i cannot find any marriage certificates, deaths or anything much else about them?

Could anyone shed any light?

Thank you in advance  :)

Thank you Crisane.

I believe i may have found Dearlove's death being 1899 in Leeds. He is just listed as Mark not William, not sure how i missed this in the first place!?

Reading the news article i found properly there is a small mention of his wife as they were known on the music scene simply as 'Mr & Mrs Dearlove'.. the hunting continues!

*** Update

I believe i have found their marriage! 1868 in Rochdale, Lancashire. 7 Years after she had listed herself as Lucy Dearlove not Lucy Myers!

Would love to know more about them!

Going back in the censuses there is a case for Sarah Crofton being nee Myers.

Liverpool Mail 21 March 1863
Parthenon Concert hall
Included in the grand concentration of talent for the week are Miss Marie Crofton and Mr Mark Derlove (their spelling) in their elegant and unique Drawing-Room Duets
It is the first ppearance there of Marie a sentimental ballad vocalist and also the first appearance of Mr. Mark Derlove comic vocalist.

Yes that definitely looks like Lucy's marriage.

Liverpool Mail 11 April 1863
The Parthenon has been refurbished including  two magnificent chandeliers. Marie (Lucy) and Mark are now listed as performing their elegant and unique drawing room duets, solos and characteristic entertainment "Sketches of Life and Character."

They played for 3 months in the Scotia Music hall in Glasgow for 3 months.

The Era 24 February 1867
They were reviewed as Mr and Mrs Mark Dearlove and this seems to continue in to the following years.
