2 questions re: born at sea births & visitors deaths
« on: Monday 11 February 19 15:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Is there a register for "born at sea" births for the period of 1820-1830? Have an ancestor who states he was born at sea on marriage register & then again on 1861 Scotland census,  born at sea off the coast of Ireland.

Have a great Aunt who was born in Scotland in 1895, emigrated to Canada in the 1920's, died in Scotland while visiting, not sure of year, dates late 1960's to mid 1970's sometime. Best way to go about finding her?

Thank you,
Lisa

There was no "Register" at that time - the best hope is that it may have been recorded in the Ship's log and that it survived. Unfortunately in many cases you need to know the ships home port to check the archives at that location.

Re your Great-aunt if she died in Scotland it would have had to be registered and the best place is Scotlands People. Depending upon when she died (early sixties records are online) you may be able to view the registration online. Failing that, you may find her details in the index at SP and order the certificate from there.
