63rd of Foot / Royal Irish
« on: Monday 11 February 19 23:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to trace records of my 3rd ggrandfather.  I think i know the following:

born in Belfast in 1837
service number 2730 in 63rd of Foot
had my 2nd ggrandfather in Nova Scotia and one of his brothers in India
was a sergeant but was sentenced to 4 days and demoted to Private in Montreal
did 20 yrs 291 days service

....BUT

I can't find anything about his parents to extend my family search.  any ideas where i can find these details?

Oh goodness that would help!

His name is Thomas Lappin.  He married Ellen in Nova Scotia and they had Walter H in 1863 in Hamilton, Canada.

i visited Kew last week but wasn't able to find any additional information in relation to his birth

Hi

Yes I think he was a drummer at some point and 1875 rings a bell.

Free search on Ulster Historical Foundation website
https://www.ancestryireland.com/family-records/birth-and-baptism-records-county-antrim-and-county-down/

has a Thomas Lappin, 1839, father Owen, county Antrim.
Might be a possible candidate.
Potential siblings?, spellings Lappin, Lappen, Lappan.
