Looking the first letter of name on the top line. Surname is Donaghy. Thank you

I'm thinking along the lines of it being an 'F'.

Have you tried to locate Mary and family in the 1911 census?

I'm thinking along the lines of it being an 'F'.

Have you tried to locate Mary and family in the 1911 census?

Well it can't be John or James judging by the J in July, so you are left with Louis or Gerard.  I wouldn't have thought there was enough markings there for a G so that would leave Louis.

Is it important to know which son it was?

Just to point out that the signature is by the person giving the information - the son (a Scottish Certificate)*. The rest of the form is filled in by the registrar/clerk.

It could be J or F on first sight.

Does look quite like 'J' i.e. if John &/or James married you can possibly compare their signatures on their marriages?
