Records between 1929 and 1931
« on: Tuesday 12 February 19 12:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have the passenger list records of a relative who emigrated to Canada in 1929 (then returned to the UK in 1931).
The destination listed was the Salvation Army Hostel in Toronto for domestic work and she then moved to work on a farm somewhere unknown.

I will be in Toronto later this year and wondered if there are any records (particularly those accessible only in person) that might tell me more about where she was or what she was doing.  I understand the 1931? census is not released yet.

Any hints or tips would be appreciated.  I know it is a narrow window of time to work with.
Thanks.

You might try contacting the Toronto Public Library's "Ask a Librarian" service for a lookup in the city directories.  They will do three years at a time for free.

Hi,

You can also search the directories yourself...they are available online through the Toronto Library site.

I believe the Toronto north York branch is now where the genealogy info is stored in their system. You can contact them to ensure.

Hi,

They moved the fabulous genealogy collection from the North York Central library down to the main Reference Branch.....  I wasn't very happy about that :'( :'(.
