Andrew Jeffrey (1800-1863) Cobourg residence
« on: Wednesday 13 February 19 01:47 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to confirm the residence location of Hon. Andrew Jeffrey (1800-1863), mayor of Cobourg (1852) and Newcastle representative to the Legislative Council (1860-1863). I have two clues:
1. The newspaper notice of the death of Andrew's second wife, Agnes Moscrip McLenhan, states, "At her late residence, King Street, Cobourg, on Sunday night, January 9th [1876], Agnes, widow of the late Hon. Andrew Jeffrey, aged 56 years."
2. Attached is a photo of a house that is in my collections. On the back, the following is written, "Cobourg - Oct 1931, corner of Loner Lane & King St." And then in a different handwriting, the following is written, "Birthplace of Henry Jeffrey, Jany. 12th 1860." This Henry Jeffrey was a son of Hon. Andrew Jeffrey.
My conclusions have been that Andrew's residence was on King Street, because of these clues.
Here are my questions:
A. Is this photo familiar to anyone?
B. Has anyone heard of the street, "Loner Lane?"
C. Does anyone know any other details of Hon. Andrew Jeffrey's residence in Cobourg?
Much thanks in advance!

Here's the 1878 map of Cobourg:

There are a couple of unnamed laneways that might fit the bill.

Have you checked with the Cobourg library, archives or historical society etc to see if they have any historical directories that might list Andrew Jeffrey and his home address??
