I think it is Edmund going by the n in servant.

There is a prison record for an Edmund Buxton in Derbyshire 1850.

Thank you all for your very helpful input. This is my first time to use RootsChat and I'm very impressed with such a great online community.
Looks like the consensus is definitely for Buxton, with Edward/Edmund still a bit in debate?

Welcome to RootsChat, bernoy :)

I have a few in my tree called Edward/Edmund, and most of them are written very clearly.  There's one family where the same man was Edward on one record but Edmund on another, e.g. the name changed from one census to the next, or his children were baptised with 'different' fathers.  I know it's the same man because: (a) there was only one family with his surname in the village; (b) his wife's name is always Caroline; (c) all the children are with him and Caroline on each census.

In a later generation, I had trouble finding my grandfather's birth record because he was known as Bill or Will, or sometimes Wilf.  I spent some time looking for a William or Wilfred, and nearly went with a William who was born in an unlikely area.  Then I came across a page from Kelly's directory, reproduced in a local history book.  There he was in exactly the right place - named John William ::)

Funny things, families ;D

Am I crazy or is her Mother Mary Ann Parsons on the Cert?

Sorry if I'm going off in a tangent here but I was intrigued by Sarah.

1851 she seems to be under Sarah Parsons, Nurse child and 1861 with Grandparents William/Elizabeth Parsons.
(Elizabeth is Williams 2nd Wife)
Seems to have married John Castle 1868 Nottinghamshire?

But GRO Birth Reg has Sarah Buxtons Mothers mn as Hunt ???
