Mathew Channer 1728-1799
« on: Thursday 14 February 19 11:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi
i am just checking some of my research

i have a christening of a Mathew Channer in Radnage 24 August 1760
i am now  wondering who this was , are there any other clues

i have for some reason linked this to a Mathew Channer i think was born 1728
( parents Charles Channer  and Joanna ).
i have 4 children for Mathew and Ann  in Radnage 1755-1762
then 3 children in Wendover 1767-1776
i think he was buried in Wendover in oct 1799

i don`t think he was christened   so he could get married in the C of E as i have his marriage in
1755 in Wendover to Ann smith.

so is this someone else who was christened 1760
any thoughts or help would be welcome ,i know it was a long while ago

thank you
andrea

Hello
It is confusing because only the transcripts are on line.
One transcription just gives the date Aug 24 1760 and Mathew Channer but the other gives the same date and a birth year of 1728.
So this is one entry in the register for Mathew Channer baptised as an adult ,married to Ann Smith  at Wendover and having children in Radnage .

The first entry is from Familysearch and the second from the Buckinghamshire baptism index but they are both referring to the same entry and the same person.

First child baptised in Wendover is 1767....so a birth year of 1760 would not be feasible for a 7 year old, so the adult baptism would fit.

There are many Channers in Chesham, so maybe worthwhile looking there.  FindMyPast have quite good coverage for the early years in Bucks.

Hello - Sorry to hijack this thread, but I can see you have a lot of information about the Channers and thought you might be able to help me. I am interested in the Chartridge Channers as they appear to have owned my house in the early 1800s. From the tithe map in 1843 I can see the property was owned by the Trustees of Mary Channer, and as there are so many Marys I can't work out who this might be. The only will I have is from Elizabeth Channer 1784 which is not very helpful.

My best guess is that this is Mary Field wife of Isaac Channer (1766-1841), or Mary Bird wife of Thomas Channer (Elizabeth's eldest, 1758-1858). Or it could be one of the Marys related to Nathaniel Channer (b1743) son of Clivers Channer (1705-1789) of Chesham. Elizabeth Channer and Nathaniel Channer are both residents of Chartridge, but I cannot see how these two lines are related.

If you have any information about who this Mary Channer might be, or any more Channer wills that could help, I would be very grateful to hear from you!

Thank you!

Cliveris Channer married Mary Dell(1738), Nathaniel Channer married Mary Statham(1787), Mary Channer married James Ives(1819).

Not sure which Mary would fit, either daughters or wives.
