Canary Islands Records
« on: Friday 15 February 19 13:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I am looking for someone who we heard had immigrated to Canary Islands back in the 50s. We believe both her and her husband have passed away but I will not write them in here just in case.. although you can view them on the 1939 census. Can anybody help me??

hello
Not my area of expertise but familysearch has an article on Spanish registration

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Santa_Cruz_de_Tenerife_Civil_Registration_-_Vital_Records

Apparently you can order a free copy of their death certs here

www.justizia.eus/certificado-defuncion

The website does translate into English

See what you think.
Obviously if they remained British citizens and had property to leave in England or Wales their probate will be  here .

www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

Does that help?

Thank you for that! I did have a look on the website you suggested for death certificate but sadly need to know the date of date  :'(

Going to have a look through some other sites as well but it's so hard!

They literally disappeared in the 50's and all that was heard was that they went to Canary Islands which isn't very helpful! And they have a common name which makes it worse!

Hi there, have you tried the British Nationals Death Overseas records for 1818-2005 on FindMyPast?

Hi Flemming,

I have but no joy :( i didn't realise how many Palma's there were in the world!  ::)

The person i am searching for is Gladys Ward nee Crofton born 13 Sept 1915 in Bramley. She married Harry Ward b. 27 Sept 1914 in Leeds 1935.

If anyone can help that would be amazing!!

It may be a long shot, but you could try contacting the church in Palma, not just for potential burial records, but in case any long-standing members of the congregation remember the Wards. There also may be an ex-pat community association that could have information. Some have magazines with back copies on-line that you can search. Then there's the British Consulate over there, although they're often tight lipped about such inquiries.
