« on: Saturday 16 February 19 09:13 GMT (UK) »
I know that the mothers maiden name can be obtained from birth registration, but I can't see how, I just see the place and reference numbers, could somebody point me in the right direction please, thanks in advance.

For what country?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Go to https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate and register, then log in and go to

GRO Indexes
1837-1918 Births
& 1837-1957 Deaths
Search the registration indexes to find a GRO reference within the above years, this will help locate these entries. (Current and Marriage indexes are not available to search here:
Please see 'Find out about researching my family history' or 'place an order')

You will then get the mother's maiden name when you input the details you have.

For England and Wales - go to the GRO site and if you've not registered, then register:

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

Go to: GRO Indexes (top left), select births a d complete the info that you have.  You'll then have a list of registrations which give MMN.

If you mean the UK

For births up to 1919
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
You need to register if you have not already ordered certificates from them

For births after 1911/12
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
