MS Word driving me mad!!
« on: Saturday 16 February 19 21:51 GMT (UK) »
I thought I was quite an expert with Word but it's driving me INSANE!!
How can I stop it turning a surname I have typed in capitals into lowercase?  It usually, but not always, keeps the forename in capitals but then turns the surname from capitals to lowercase(keeping the first letter as a capital).  Sometimes it turns both into lowercase and I have to go back and change them back to capitals
I can type War and Peace in capitals if I want but as soons as I type a name, Word steps in and changes it to lowercase.
I can't find it in proofing tools
Windows 10 laptop running the latest version of Word.
Pearson (Bradwell Dby & Stocksbridge)
Donkersley
Crawshaw (Bradfield)
Evans (Bradwell Dby and Stocksbridge)
Crossley (Penistone)
Rogers (Nottinghamshire & Stocksbridge)
Poynton / Pointon (Derbyshire)
Day (Barnsley WRY and Iowa USA)
Scargill (Barnsley)

Are you using columns or just plain text?  I've just typed in JOHN BROWN and it's stayed as is.

Just plain text.  I'm part of my brother's Microsoft group and none of theirs does it either!
It's highly annoying!
I'm typing up some family history and spending more time going back and correcting stuff than actually typing it (so it seems!)

Have you tried

    Open Microsoft Word.
    Click the File tab.
    Click on Options.
In the Word Options window, click the Proofing option.
    Click the AutoCorrect Options button.

This may not be what you're doing but I touch type and occasionally press the Cap Lock instead of 'a'.

Could that possibly be the problem  :-\

Add - so Cap Lock and Upper case key gives aaaa   instead of AAAA

Have you got a hammer?   ;D

Not being a Word user, can't offer further advice!

just tried it and watched what I am doing.  not that.
I might have seen the light...it's only taken me all day!!  I've just typed a load of surnames and it's only the ones on my family tree that are doing it.  I bet it's my autocorrect...I've asked it to alter, say, pearson to Pearson, but I bet it's decided to alter PEARSON to Pearson.

So...
