This may not be what you're doing but I touch type and occasionally press the Cap Lock instead of 'a'.

Could that possibly be the problem  :-\

Add - so Cap Lock and Upper case key gives aaaa   instead of AAAA

just tried it and watched what I am doing.  not that.
I might have seen the light...it's only taken me all day!!  I've just typed a load of surnames and it's only the ones on my family tree that are doing it.  I bet it's my autocorrect...I've asked it to alter, say, pearson to Pearson, but I bet it's decided to alter PEARSON to Pearson.

So...

So... looks like you will need to add PEARSON to your Personal Dictionary

Have you still got   Correct Two Initial CApitals    ticked??

If you have then you're telling computer to correct words that have 2 or more than 2 Capital letters in them..... then it will!

Trouble with that is if you type  LOndon  in a document it won't correct it.....

If all else fails, remember that you can get Word to adjust the case without retyping.

Select the text, then press shift-F3.

This cycles from "hello world" to "Hello World" to "HELLO WORLD".
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

I set it up that way to save me keep pressing the Shift button for all the surnames.  Might just have to turn it back again!!

If one name is formatted correctly, you can use Format Painter and apply it to ones you want to have same Format after you enter all the names.
