Ruby Grant and her mother Alice
« on: Sunday 17 February 19 02:48 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon everyone,
I am hoping to get the creases and lines taken out of this photo.

I believe its my grandmother and great grandmother on their way to a picnic at Mount Tambourine in Queensland in the early 1920s before my grandmother moved to Melbourne to marry.

Thanks very much

Regards Marion

Hi,  Can help with dating and identification of car. First indication as to the origin of the car is the scuttle mounted sidelight. Most British made cars had the sidelight on the mudguard; most American cars had them for a while on the scuttle close to the windscreen. As not much of the car can be seen it is a little difficult to be very precise on the model but this is an American cca 1924 Buick Model 35 Four Door Touring.

Buick was founded 1899 by David Dunbar Buick who relocated to Flint, Michigan where he was joined by William C Durant, who made Buick at the time the largest car make in the US, and went on to found the General Motors in 1908 as a holding company.  GM currently manufactures cars and trucks in 37 countries and ranks number 10 of largest United States corporations by revenue.

Am also attaching a very gently repaired version of your photo.

Good job vintman! I love researching old cars.  The old ones are so beautiful and have lots of character!  Imagine all the time I can save now with you nearby!  ;)

It's fine with me Marion, but check with the moderator first.  It might not fit the parameters for the forum.  I enjoy researching the cars, but I think Vintman leaves me in the dust when it comes old car knowledge.
Cheers,
John
