Dick's Mount near Port Macquarie
« on: Sunday 17 February 19 07:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I've found a few family references to Dick's Mount which I think was located in the Maria River area of Port Macquarie.  Could anyone give me the exact location of it please?

Thanks

Hi   I searched Mr Google "dicks mount" Port Macquarie and up came
a PDF file called ABC Farm Mid North Coast Library Service , Place Names of the Port Macquarie District a 94 page documents

DICKS MOUNT Property (270 acres) on the Maria and Torrens River. .........

Maybe the Port Macquarie Library or the Historical Society might be able to help with an exact location

The 1913 New South Wales Electoral Roll for the electorate of Hasting and Macleay has a polling place at Dick’s Mount.   There were 38 electors on that roll for that polling place and their addresses do not include any street names, but do include the following localities:
Maria River
Torrens river
Thompson’s Hill,
Back Creek,
Dick’s Mount,
Piper’s Creek,
Big Hill,

Trove has the following informative cutting from the 19 Jan 1918 Port Macquarie news and Hastings River Advocate re the mail service for Dick’s Mount ….   ‘a majority of the residents prefer the launch service’  so the mail would arrive by boat ….  https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/105141561

The Land and Property Information service for NSW is now conducted by a private organisation, but they do still provide free access to the some of the cancelled civil parish maps that the Lands Office held …

The Sands NSW Country Directory in 1919 has the following for Dick’s Mount
290 m (miles) N (North of Sydney GPO) Via Taree
Sidney C BAKER, Farmer
Thomas EMERTON, Farmer
Thomas FRY, Farmer
Robert HALL, Farmer
E T MUMFORD, Teamster
Charles R PARKIN, Farmer

William F TOLMAN, Farmer

Piper's creek according to Wikipedia is a watercourse that is part of the Hastings River catchment, rising about 4 kms northwest of Ballengarra trig station in the Ballengarra State Forest .... The Pacific Highway crosses the river near Kundabung...

The NSW Geographical Names Board has Pipers Creek (I presume it is near Dick's Mount) as in the parish of Prospect, County of Macquarie  :)

Thanks JM for all your effort.  I've written to the Port Macquarie Library and hopefully they will be able to tell me exactly where Dick's Mount is.
