Help with a Prerogative Court of Canterbury will of 1794 please
« on: Sunday 17 February 19 17:21 GMT (UK) »
I am struggling with the first beneficiaries (6th and 7th lines up from the bottom) –

“to Michael ? to William ? and to Samuel ? children of my Brother in Law Thomas ? “

What is the surname?

I have tried unsuccessfully to find an example of this capital letter.

This handwriting is used all the time in PCC wills. What is it called? Is there an alphabet available online?

There is a free font available called or Secretary Hand Ancient which can be installed on a pc.

I have done A-Z and a-z in a word document and have found it quite handy sometimes as the 'standard' secretary font but unfortunately it does not allow for the individuals flourishes.

I seem to recall that there was a link from RC to a useful website, just cannot see it at this time

Thank you Edward, that's a good tip to make an alphabet from downloading a font.

So, are these PCC wills written in a modern form of Secretary Hand?
