Are they on there?

You could try Archwaynz

https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/

Enter the deceaseds name into the search box and see if a coroners inquest exists for the person you are searching for.

Then I'm afraid you'd have to request a lookup if you can't go in person?

Even if the year of the report is known, is there an easy way of negotiating the search?

Hi
I don't think there is anything more to help than the record no./ref given on Archway
Picking a film at random - and then any image - I landed on John McDougall, 19/3/1896
So his ref on archway is 1896/132

So, if I was looking for him from scratch I would need film 1560352 as the FamilySearch catalogue says that it has reports 22-352 for 1896.
And on image 5 we can see the beginning of the first inquest and it has written on it Cor 96 / 22

So I would kind of make an estimate (frequently wrong!) of whereabouts on the film inquest 132 might be, jump to that image, and then edge backwards or forwards to something which identifies clearly whose record I am looking at.
What I want is an image with that number on. Sometimes if I get too frustrated looking for that, but have got another name whilst doing so, I might put that name into Archway and by the reference find out how near I am to who I want that way.

So it's trial and error really. It can often be a longer task than one might like!
I don't think there is any easy way but If anyone has one I would love to know!
John
