Walter Sutherland

Hi,
I have been looking for the marriage of Walter Sutherland for a while and have found only one possible marriage on FindMyPast and familysearch at the right time.

His daughter Katharine/ Catherine Sutherland  married Robert Reid in 1832 in Edinburgh. Her father was listed as Walter Sutherland. In the 1841 and 51 census her dob was 1809.
Katharine Sutherland was baptised in 1809 Midlothian with parents listed as Walter Sutherland and Elizabeth Gunn.
I have found a marriage in 1804 between Walter Suthd and Elspet Gun in Latheron,Caithness. Could this be it?
Problems are that Caithness is a long way from  Midlothian ( maybe not such a problem as people travelled) and that in 1841 census both Walter and Elizabeth say birthplace as Midlothian.
Has anyone else researched this family or could a more seasoned genealogist than myself put their brain to it. I don't feel confident enough to put it on my tree without a bit more enquiry.

Have you checked the records on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk it looks likely that their was a Walter in Caithness.

Walter Sutherland 60 and daughter Joanna 30 are living in Unst with Margaret his other daughter age 36, she is married to Magnus Monat. As transcribed on 1841 census.

Meanwhile in 1841: Scotts Close 123 Cowgate No 1, Edinburgh

So it looks likely that the marriage you have in 1804 is the one.

Thanks so much for your help on that. I didn't know about Scotland's People and I didn't find Elizabeth in 1851.Have been at a brick wall with this for so long that I nearly gave up.
