Possible prison record in 1900 for James Wiltshire or Wilshaw a hawker born 1875 Sheffield for being drunk  :-X

A 3 cousin I email a lot believes he married under James, and having 2 kids but I am not too sure and don't know how to fully prove or disprove the theory.

We would have to find a marriage registration first then check out the certificate to see if the father's name/occupation matched.

Is he unmarried on that long list you have for him in Chesterfield?

It's tricky having various spellings of the surname  :(

Free BMD index you can check for marriages.

There are marriages for James Wilsher for example 1912 in Nottinghamshire to Betsy Brumby but without more detail impossible to say if this is your man.

I guess your contact doesn't have any names for his wife/children?  Even a first name would be something to go on.

Death for possibly the same James who married in 1912

1926 Notts age 52 which would pretty much fit the age of yours

He believes its this group...

James Wilshaw son of Joseph a hawker wed Winifred shaw at Sheffield 21.8.1893, witnessed by John William nield and Florence Holroyd.

Kid: Mary Ann Wilsher Birth 1894 • Church Gresley, Derbyshire, England and maybe another kid called James.

Oh ok thanks that's something to go on and someone has the marriage certificate already then.

He should be down as married on the 1901 and 1911 census.  Have you looked for this wife and children.
