hi every one I'm new here  so hopefully I wont burden you too much. I am looking for info on Charles Burgess, born 1835... the 1861 census suggest he is in Royal Marine Barracks Chatham aged 26 in 1861 a private how can I find out more about him, where do I look? I have tried the NA British army service records even though it says he in the Royal navy I assume this is so? I even tried looking for ships going out in the 3 yrs to his joining I would reall appreciate some tips if you have any thanks in advance.x

I don't  know if you are looking for info other than his service record but looking on the GRO index this seems to be the birth of their daughter Maria Burgess which gives the mother's maiden name
Maria Burgess June 1/4 1870 registration district Edmonton vol 3a page 231 mmn Tyre

Emma birth reg also gives mmn as Tyre

I can't see a marriage for Charles and Agnes on FreeBMD or ScotlandsPeople as yet

Tell us about 'your' man - birthplace, wife, etc.

In 1861 there is also a Charles Burgess bc.1835 Newington, London who is an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy but states alias Furguson.
