'Wrong' name given at baptism?

My great aunt began life and was registered as Daisy Stinchcombe, by the time she married she’d become Daisy May Victoria.

Just a thought - which was the earlier date - registration or baptism?

Kate born July, not baptised until October, and more interestingly, not registered until the DQ either.  This has made me realise that I haven't bothered to get documentary evidence of her dates because I got the info from the person herself.  I'll probably get a pdf B/C now.

Thanks for your replies everybody.  I don't know what she was called when growing up, but her husband always called her Kitty or Kit.

My point was not so much about people being called by different names at registration, baptism and in later life, but about the person who misled the vicar.

My daughter’s name was mixed up with her husband’s on their marriage cert.
Her names( three Christian names ,( hers ,
my mum’s and my m in l’s ) were partly given to her husband and his second Christian name given to her.
You should see the expression on their faces on the photograph of them signing the register 
We had to appeal to the bishop as the marriage cert and register are legal documents and under normal circumstsnces cannot be altered.

BUT, DID the informant, mislead the Vicar?  That was why I asked the question as to which date was the first - baptism or registration.  If the registration date is prior to the baptism date, then the neighbour did NOT mislead the Vicar.     Plus the fact that you were not around at the time to hear the conversation between parent/s and Mrs Davis, nor was your grandmother able to correct any error

Sounds as though it may just have been a misunderstanding.  Perhaps the parents had been calling her Kate as a pet form of Kathleen.

And both are pet names of Katherine/Catherine. I know a Catherine who was unaware that was her name until she started school.

My OH had an aunt who was always called Molly, but in fact she was registered and baptised as Marion.
Because  the vicar said Molly was not an acceptable name, the parents had to chose slightly similar name as her official name, although they did not like the name Marion and never used it.
I am surprised that they were so compliant and easily persuaded. Personally, I would have told him to.......well, am sure you can guess!
