Unknown military badge
« on: Wednesday 20 February 19 17:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
My dad died in September. He was 83 and did National Service in the 50s. This badge was in his possessions. I would be so grateful if anyone could tell me where it came from?

It a civilian rifle shooting club medallion.

Thanks for the reply. Would a civilian medallion have a crown on it?

It's not a military badge if that was what you were hoping for.  It looks like a watch chain fob.

Good evening,

You were correct the first time alan o, it is a shooting club medal. Many clubs used the same basic medal but the areas I've marked blue should have lettering in them. This would normally be the club name, it looks as though there is or was something there but can't read it.

It would also normally be engraved on the rear with details of the winner. Also the competition shot in and place.

Many of these medals were silver so would have hall marks as well.

Many thanks for that!  :)Unfortunately there is no engraving anywhere on it. Do you know how old it is likely to be?
