Henry Brayshaw 1845 Yeadon - 1885 Stalybridge

I'm trying to find Henry Brayshaw's marriage to Eliza (born in Wednesbury around 1843). I have a copy of their son Samuel's birth certificate (1882 in Stalybridge) which gives his mother's maiden name as Holmes. I think this is incorrect and her maiden name was Wall (as listed against their youngest son James born in Stalybridge in 1884). I found Eliza Wall baptised in Wednesbury/West Bromwich in 1846, but born in 1842 to John and Rachel Wall. She married George William Holmes and had two children that I know of (Frederick William and Clara born in Birminham). Frederick William Holmes is in Stalybridge in 1901 and 1911 and dies there in 1934.

Henry and Eliza Brayshaw had other children - Ellen Elizabeth (who may have been born Holmes) 1876 Birmingham, Clara/Mary 1879 Whitworth, Harry Hartley 1880 Bacup, Samuel 1882 Stalybridge, James 1884 Stalybridge.

I had found a reference to the family with Eliza Myatt Wall as Henry's wife, but she was born in Newcastle under Lyme in 1841 (also with a father John Wall) but Henry's Eliza was from Wednesbury which is a lot further South, so unless I can find the marriage details that specify the link to Myatt I don't think this is correct. Especially as their son Samuel's mother is listed as Elizabeth Holmes.

I suspect that given where the children were born that Henry and Eliza probably married in Yorkshire or Lancashire (and Ellen Elizabeth was born in Birmingham to Eliza Holmes before she married Henry. It's possible Eliza married again before she married Henry and I haven't found that surname.

That's the family I'm researching. I have tried searching marriages for Henry Brayshaw using search BMD and other search options but haven't found the marriage of Henry Brayshaw to Eliza (Holmes/Wall).

You're right that it isn't the Eliza Wall born in Newcastle under Lyme as she marries Edward Camp in 1864 and is on the 1881 census in Maccelesfield.
And i think you're right that the Eliza Wall who married George William Holmes is your ancestor ,nut as she was married to George William Holmes and it was very unlikely they could afford to divorce she wouldn't legally be able to marry Henry Brayshaw without committing bigamy.
That would explain why you can't find a marriage ,because they didn't.

That's really helpful.

I found Eliza Holmes in the 1871 census with her children in Wednesbury. The census indicates she is widowed, so I'll have to check for the death of George William Holmes to verify that.

The birth of Henry and Eliza's daughter Clara in 1879 with the link between Brayshaw and Holmes with her mother's maiden name as Wall pretty much confirms my line of research is correct.
