Barnard Jewell, marriage
« on: Thursday 21 February 19 22:40 GMT (UK) »
According to info on family search Barnard Jewell (1779-1865) seems to have married a Catherine ? (1785-1824 ) in London 1806. Any help to find her surname would be appreciated. After Cathrines death Barnard married a Charlotte Levy sometime between 1824 & 1829.

According to info on family search

I can't see anything on FS - can you provide the link to the entry please?

There is a tree on Ancestry but it only shows Charlotte - no mention of a Catherine. Tree owner has marriage to Charlotte Levy in 1806 which is clearly wrong as Charlotte was only born in 1798

Do you know who Barnard's brother was?
Old Bailey online: 3 January 1853 Barnard was walking home from his brothers house on Mile End Road when he was attacked and robbed says he is 68 and they stole his watch chain.

Sometimes we have to go around the question to find the answer.
Are the family of Jewish origin in which case you would need to contact the Jewish Archives in London.

That's a very interesting story about the attack. Unfortunately I do not have any info as yet on Barnards brother. Yes they were very Jewish and there is info on the Jewishgen website but nothing about Catherine that I can see.

There is also a newspaper report of the incident in the Kentish Mercury 1 January 1853. I don't have a subscription at the moment all I can see is his name and that he in business as a Tailor and Outfitter at 79 Ratcliff Way. (find my Past)
Perhaps someone with a subscription can tell us if the newspaper mentions his brothers name.

No mention of brother.
Barnard's house was very near the corner of Neptune Street where the the Cock and Neptune public house was.
Barnard was a 'very diminutive man'
address of his business is 79 St. George Street, near London Docks

I think it's possible his brother was Abselom Jewell born 1793 Minories, along with sisters Dinah (Jewell) Levy & Elizabeth. They are all together on the 1851 with Dinah as widow.
