Bootle. Help with a marriage
« on: Friday 22 February 19 23:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello I am looking for help with a marriage cert that I have. I have a wedding between William MCann and Margaret Curren on the 13th July 1917 in St James church Bootle. Margaret married again in 1923 butwedonot k ow what happened to William. We think there may have been a child from this marriage. Williams address is Tytheburn Road. He is registered as a motor driver and dad Joseph being a motor mechanic.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you mean a child from the McCann marriage?  Margaret’s surname is Curran on the marriage reg on freebmd - not Curren.  Also Curran on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Have you looked on freebmd for a McCann birth with a mothers maiden name Curran?  There are 2 - 1917 & 1919 www.freebmd.org.uk

You give no details of William’s age in 1917 but presume you have already checked freebmd for a death for him and discounted the one in 1921?  Burial record only shows address as Corporation Hospital Bootle and he was William James

Could he have died in WW1 - have you checked www.cwgc.org

Who did Margaret marry in 1923?  Nothing in Liverpool on freebmd

Thankyou so much. Your information has given us much more to work on. Yes we think there was a. child from the McCann marriage. My aunty got married in 1923 to Terence McGeough in Ireland, I think. I think I will apply for birth Certs for the two McCannchildren. In 1917 William was 22. He lived in 65 Tytheburn Road but I cannot find anything for this address. His father was listed as Joseph but can't seem to find a birth cert, thinking he may be Irish? I checked cwgc, but nothing corresponds to 1921. Once again thankyou so Much!

So there is the possibility he may have died in Ireland if Margaret remarried there.

The 1921 death does fit his age but also has a second name of James.    No birth reg on freebmd for a William James McCann 1894-1896. Was Margaret Irish?

Think the road could have been Tithebarn Road which is in Crosby, Lancashire (north of Bootle and south of Southport).

Marriage to Terence McGeough was 11 October 1922, Dundalk.
Odd, says Margaret McCann was a spinster!
One of the witnesses was Kattie(?) Curran.

Thankyou so much for being so helpful. That is definitely the marriage to her second husband. Interesting she kept her married name, however her maiden name is definitely Curran and she came from Louth, Ireland. Her dad was Andrew Curran so they must have made an error in the register. She never spoke about her first marriage but we understand there was definitely a child born. It could be the first husband was
Living inWest Derby but was born maybe in Ireland. It is a mystery!

On the 1917 marriage cert - what was William’s father’s name?  You may be able to find William on the Irish 1901/1911 census to confirm if he was born in Ireland
