Marriage date of Edward FUNNELL and Elizabeth NEWNHAM
« on: Monday 25 February 19 12:19 GMT (UK) »
Hello

My ancestors Edward FUNNELL (1796-1855) and Elizabeth NEWNHAM (d. 1841 or 1851) were married in Battle (the place, not while fighting) in 1820. According to one tree on Ancestry, this took place on 14 October of that year (which, I suppose, is fitting), but the tree owner can't remember the source of that information.

I can't seem to find their marriage date either (doesn't seem to be on Familysearch, SFHG don't appear to have indexed a lot of marriages). Is there any other repository of information I might have overlooked? (Online, as I'm not able to visit Sussex).

Some people seem to think that Elizabeth was baptised in Fletching on 20 March 1796. Certainly, according to SFHG an Elizabeth Newnham was, but I've no idea how to prove or disprove she's "my" Elizabeth...

Thanks

Martin

Where and when was their first child born

As far as my records are concerned, their first child, Thomas, was baptised in 1826 in Brightling.

That may lessen the likelihood of there being a Fletching connection. He wasn't from Battle, but maybe she was.

Martin

EDIT: can't find a baptism for her in Battle on the SFHG website.

The names they gave the children may help. These are all baptized at Fletching

18 March 1792 Elizabeth Newnham of Thomas and Jael?

20 March 1796 Elizabeth Newnham of Richard and Sarah

20 January 1799 Elizabeth Newnham of Nicholas and Sarah

I think that must be a different Edward Funnell as none of my Edward's children have those names – their names are Thomas, Charles, Frances (Fanny) and Isaac. I suppose it's possible that Mary Newnham might be related to Elizabeth, though.
