There is a Death Duty Register entry for an Edward Funnell 1 January 1802 of Heathfield the same
town that your Edward came from. It may prove interesting.
The will is not a PCC will so its probably at the Sussex Record Office or the county that has the wills for the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.

This Edward is the Edward who was born in 1796's father, as far as I can tell. Would be nice to check the records, but unfortunately I'm nowhere near Sussex.

You can see the will here if you are logged in as a free member. It's not in the best condition.

I don't know about that - if it's legible, there's no problem. Bit of a pain that he doesn't mention his children, but his wife died only a few weeks later, so maybe she does in her will, presuming she left one.

Been trying to find William b. 1820('ish)'s baptism, but have had no luck anywhere...

Also had no luck in finding Edward's baptism. Censuses say he was born in Heathfield c. 1796, but I can't find any reference to a baptism, either in the CofE church or the Independent Chapel (where Edward Funnell Sr and Martha née Turner are buried, and where their other children were baptised).

Was Edward sr. wife Martha from Heathdfield? sometimes a first born child will be baptized in the mothers parish and not where they are currently living.

As far as I'm aware, she was from Warbleton, so not far from Heathfield, although the only baptism I can find for someone of that name c. 1755 was in Lewes at St John sub Castro.

In any case, it's sadly academic as Edward, if he is her and Edward Sr's son, is the youngest, not the oldest (the oldest was Isaac, baptised at Heathfield Independent Chapel in 1785).
