any handwriting wizards out there?
« on: Sunday 14 August 05 11:52 BST (UK) »
I cannot even begin to guess what the birth-place name in Ireland is on the 1871 UK census for my ancestor Ellen Turner (nee Regan). The transcriber's interpretation is ' Ireland, Fenolagne' Does anyone have any better suggestions, please? It would really help me over a hurdle if I can get to the bottom of this. It's on line number 13 on the link below.
Thanks for looking!
Debbie

Hi again,

Is it just me, or in the row below at the end, is there 'Cork' written?

Hubby's is Twickenham - so the first letter of her p.o.b. could be a T?

Well spotted Em, it does say Cork!

It will in fact be in square C1...Between Clonakilty and Ballinspittle, to the South West of Cork...what do you reckon?

Not bad for someone whose ancestors have clamped themselves firmly to the East side of England eh?!  I think the 'e' is missing from the census entry, but it's the nearest thing I could find...now I just hope it's the verdict Debbie wanted!!

Wow, what a great response, thanks a million!
Well spotted that Cork below the place-name, I never noticed it, and would never have had an idea it could be Tinoleague. You have no idea how much this has helped me with my latest brick wall, hopefully I can progress now.
Thanks once again for your kind help
Cheers!
Debbie
