Looking for marriage of Thomas Addy
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 14:22 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Addy was born in Kirkheaton and baptised there on 26 Dec 1790, son of Peter Addy. Mother is not named but presumed to be Peter's first wife Ruth nee Oldroyd.
Thomas enlisted in the 1st Lifeguards on 14 Oct 1812 at the age of 21. His occupation is given as weaver.
He was discharged on 30 Aug 1845 at age of 53 years and 10 months. He died on 26 April 1878 and was buried on 1st May at Holy Trinity Brompton, his abode at the time was Chelsea hospital.
He appears on the 1851 / 1861/ 1871 censuses with wife Fanny, but no other relatives. His birthplace is recorded as Huddersfield which is close to Kirkheaton, Fanny's pob is recorded as Bishop Burton on 1851 and Beverley on 1861 and '71. She seems to be consistently 2 years younger, giving a year of birth approx 1792/3. Fanny died in August 1871 and is buried in Brompton. Can anyone find their marriage please and whether they had any children, please

Thank you very much. That fills in quite a lot.
To summarise: Known children so far
William abt 1817 Lambeth
Samuel abt 1827 somewhere in Berkshire
Ann abt 1832 Clewer

Son William is a shoemaker when he married abt age 21 but later joins same regiment as Thomas.

Looks like Thomas was at barracks in London, then moved to Windsor barracks. His discharge was in London and then he lived in London until his death. A bit odd he was recorded as a weaver on his son's marriage record - his pre-army occupation.

I've now found a service record for a William Addy who was a trooper in 1st life Guards attested on 15 Dec 1841 age 23 but born Beverley. Could be the son, born at his mother's parents house and then baptised back in London where father was stationed.

added
William's discharge was 1852

well, William has Westminster or Kensington as his place of birth on census entries. Agree that weaver on the marriage record is odd, but his daughter, Frances & Elizabeth, is with Thomas & Frances for the 1841 census. Possible 1841 census entry for Matilda, William's wife, in St Bartholomew's Hospital.

Frances Elizabeth Addy was baptised in Clewer 11 Aug 1839 daughter of William, policeman, and Matilda, residence Dedworth Green

another possible child to Thomas & Frances. There's a Thomas Addy born St Margaret's Westminster who attested to the 1st Life Guards 16 June 1834 aged 13 years 10 months. He was a Trumpeter Major when discharged in 1863. His height is noted as 6ft 2in.

He married Emma Stuart sept qtr 1860 in Windsor registration district.

Thank you. he would be born about August 1820. Both Thomas (the father) and William were 6 ft or thereabouts. I think a bit unusual for those times.
