Harry healy denning ww1 us army transport jan 12th 1918
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 22:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have seen on ancestry a record for my great grand uncle Harry healy denning on January 12th 1918 from hoboken new Jersey. I know from his own writing he sailed 11th January but he did list what the name of transport and I cannot view it on ancestry for some reason, anybody know how to track this down as I have tried a few ways and not getting anywhere. Thanks in advance

Blair

The name of the ship has been vigorously crossed out on the record - is that what you are referring to?

Note that every time the ship is named on all the pages, it is crossed out, but referred to as "24" .
Go back to Uncle's image set, then go to image 2.  It is handwritten as Madawska, or Madauska, I can't make out the handwriting.  It is typewritten, and not so badly crossed out on image 5.

Just looked it up on Google used to be called konig wilhem the 2nd it was a German passanger liner captured and changed its name in 1917. The weird thing is that konig was a name of a German Jewish ancestor not related to Harry but via my grandmother's grandfather

Interesting!  Google also gives the correct spelling of Madawaska.  They spelled it wrong on the ships manifest!  At least with the power of Google, you can actually see pictures of it!
