BOTTOMLEY/GREENWOOD
« on: Wednesday 27 February 19 10:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone have access to baptisms in Sutton in Kildwick parish please.

I have a marriage between John Greenwood & Agnes Bottomley in 1768 He is from Glusburn & she is from Sutton (Entry in Kildwick P.R) Agnes is described as a minor and her father George gives his consent.
Not too sure what the age or marriage was then (18?) so if that is correct then she would have been born around 1750's (?)
If no baptism found then I would just settle for George's marriage lol
Their daughter (John & Agnes) was Eleanor who married Robert Gledstone and they came to live at North Ferriby E Yorks They are my mum's great great grandparents.

Many Thanks

I agree with BumbleB on the date of baptism, but I'm not sure about the marriage.

I've been looking at the very useful Wharfegen site, where there are lots of transcripts for this area, with entries arranged into families. This shows George and Mary in Sutton having children until Joseph in 1762 (my transcript agrees with this), but that the one who married in Ilkley died in 1747/48, and his wife Mary in 1757.

That would mean they are not the same family, but it would probably be a good idea to confirm this for yourself.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I think I agree with you, Arthur, because there is a baptism at Kildwick - 16 January 1742:

Robert, son of George Bottomley, Labourer of Sutton and Mary his wife.

Looking only at Kildwick parish register, with parents George and Mary, there are the following extra baptisms - all have the family "of Sutton" :

24 July 1737 - Ellen - images are atrocious, so have just taken transcription as George and Mary.
3 March 1740 - Thomas - Labourer
12 May 1745 - Elizabeth - Labourer
17 March 1754 - Mary - Comber  :-\ :-\
9 May 1756 - James - Labourer
11 April 1762 - Joseph - Husbandman
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi

Have another favour to ask I have found a baptism for George, parents Thomas & Anna Emmott  which seems to fit and a bapt for  Thomas b 1711 whose parents are Thomas ad Elaene  (Helen Eleanor a & e joined together)

Has anyone got access to marriage registers pre 1711 pls for Thomas and Elaena.
