if you have a 6th Battalion Black Watch POW in your tree, this might help

Hiya

Just thought I would share with you all some info I have received from the ministry for my Grandfather who was a POW in WW1, he was serving in the 6th Battalion of the Black Watch and was captured on 21st March 1918 in "Beugany" and held in Frankfurt until the end of the war. We all wonder where about the POWs where so hope this helps you. Am not sure of the Beugany spelling or where about in Frankfurt, but at least its a starting point.

He was captured at Beugny and was held in Frankfurt an der Oder which is not the Frankfurt everyone knows which is Frankfurt am Main but a town now on the German/Poland border on the Oder river.

His POW record is here:

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

The action on 21-26 March 1918 which resulted in his capture along with almost 500 of his comrades is described in detail in the battalion war diary which can be downloaded from the National Archives at:  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14055848.  It took place just to the west of Beugny.  On the map/image at the link below the trench lines can be seen running across the map top left to bottom right. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=14&lat=50.1238&lon=2.9303&layers=101465149&right=BingHyb

Beugny is just to the east of Bapaume towards Cambrai.
