I can’t find a Lizzie Atkins living with a Mary Ann in the 1891 census for that locality but there is an Elizabeth Atkins at 6 years old as a boarder in the Baker household in Aylesford.

Mary Ann's brother William E J Atkins marries Emma Julia Baker daughter of James and Elizabeth, with whom little Elizabeth Atkins is lodging in 1891! Like like it must be her, with her uncle's inlaws

There's a marriage for a Mary Ann Atkins in Maidstone district, 1888.  Annoyingly there's a spouse missing on the FreeBMD record and it's the one she marries.A bit of detective work identified this Mary Ann marries George Hankins - found them on 1891 & 1901 and she says b Tovil/Maidstone

It looks very like her sister Ellen Sarah Atkins marries in the same district in the next quarter

The Baker link looks positive  :)

In 1891 George & Mary Hankins have 2 young children

Pricilla 2
Clara 1

both born Maidstone but looks like Clara dies later that year

George is a soldier drummer infantry

by 1901 there are 4 more children
Elizabeth - James - Albert - Lillian

sadly it looks like James and Albert were both killed in WW1.

That one might be a red herring as it says Eccles, Norfolk on the Familysearch transcription and I think Lizzie was born in Eccles near Aylesford, Kent.

Thanks for all the info folks, I think there is a good chance we have found Lizzie’s mother & Grandparents at least but I would still like to know where Mary E (or Ann) Atkins was in 1881 if possible and if there really was a bricklayer father called Robert.
Can anyone see Lizzie’s birth certificate or do I need to order it?

Mary Ann's stepfather was a bricklayer on one census and it's not unknown for a fatherless child to borrow a grandfather's occupation for the marriage cert.

You can only get the details from a birth cert by buying a copy. Cheapest way is to get a pdf.
